Labor-Greens Government must act following yet another data breach

Account holders with the ACT Container Deposit Scheme have been notified of another data breach today, where unauthorised persons have tried to access customers’ accounts in order to transfer money into another account.

“It’s unfortunate that the ACT Container Deposit Scheme has suffered another data breach” Ms Lawder, Shadow Minister for City Services said today.

“Customers rightly expect high levels of security when money and personal details are concerned. I hope the ACT Government does everything possible to strengthen security in the future.

“After last year’s breach, the government assured us that tighter security was on the way, yet here we are again” Ms Lawder said.

“Canberrans are keen recyclers but must feel confident and reassured about their personal details in order to continue to encourage participation in the scheme,” Ms Lawder concluded.

The last reported breach, which was similar in nature, occurred in January 2023.
