Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee has criticised Andrew Barr and his Labor-Greens Government for failing Canberrans when it comes to fuel prices in the ACT.
In a motion that will be moved in the Legislative Assembly today, Ms Lee will highlight that despite previous promises made by Andrew Barr, the ACT Labor-Greens government has failed to task the ICRC with the role of monitoring, reporting and analysis of the ACT fuel market as and failed to establish a fuel price watchdog.
“This failure by Andrew Barr has led to Canberrans paying higher petrol prices than those of any capital city in Australia,” Ms Lee said.
“Andrew Barr has not followed through with his promises to help reduce the cost of fuel and during a cost-of-living crisis, Canberrans are paying the price.
“This Labor-Greens government has no interest in doing all it can to help ease the cost-of-living crisis that so many Canberrans are experiencing. This is a government that has given up on governing in the best interests of Canberrans.”
Ms Lee will call on the ACT Labor-Greens government to report back to the Legislative Assembly on the final sitting day, the progress of establishing a fuel price watchdog, and the commissioning of the ICRC to undertake ongoing monitoring, reporting and analysis of the ACT fuel market.
“Every time Canberrans fill up at the petrol station, as the costs tick over more than other jurisdictions including Queanbeyan, they can thank Andrew Barr who has done nothing.
“This government has once again failed each and every Canberran and it is time for Andrew Barr to front up and explain why he sat on his hands for over four years and did nothing to help lower the rising cost of petrol in the ACT,” Ms Lee concluded.
