Canberra Liberals Government will increase funding for Kidsafe ACT

Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee has today announced that a Canberra Liberals Government will increase funding to Kidsafe ACT by an additional $110,000 per year for four years.

Ms Lee said the Canberra Liberals believe that supporting organisations that work to keep our children safe is crucial and there needs to be assurances and certainty they can keep providing such an important service.

“Kidsafe ACT is a much-loved Canberra charity dedicated to preventing unintentional injuries to our children,” Ms Lee said.

“Like many of our community sector organisations, funding from the government has not kept up with demand or the increasing costs of wages, insurances and other costs.

“Kidsafe ACT is at a critical juncture and without additional support, it could be forced to reduce its much-needed services or worse, close completely.”

Deputy Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Families, Youth and Community Services Leanne Castley said Kidsafe ACT has been calling for a much-needed increase in their funding but has been largely ignored by the Labor-Greens government.

“The Canberra Liberals value the crucial role that Kidsafe ACT plays in our community and is committed to ensuring it continues for many years to come,” Ms Castley said.

“The additional funding will not only support the current work Kidsafe ACT does but allow them to increase their services.

“This includes more free car seat safety checks for Canberrans in need, extending opening hours, carry out more pop-up consultations across Canberra and carry out workshops and education on car seat safety for charities that transport children,” Ms Castley concluded.
